EASY Chocolate Lava Cake Recipe

Melissa Jo

Ingredients

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix
  • 2 packages 3.9 oz. each instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 4 cups milk
  • Whipped cream or Cool Whip optional

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). This ensures the perfect temperature for baking the cake.
  • In a mixing bowl, prepare the cake mix as instructed on the box. Combine the mix with the required ingredients, such as eggs and oil. Mix well until you have a smooth batter.
  • Take a greased 9×13 inch baking dish and pour the cake batter into it. Spread it evenly, ensuring a consistent thickness throughout.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the instant chocolate pudding mix and milk until smooth. This luscious mixture will create the ooey-gooey center of your lava cake.
  • Gently pour the pudding mixture over the cake batter in the baking dish. Don’t worry if it sinks a bit—it will create a delightful surprise in every bite!
  • Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 50-60 minutes. To check if the cake is done, insert a toothpick into the cake. If it comes out clean, your cake is perfectly baked.
  • Once baked, remove the cake from the oven and let it cool for about 10-15 minutes. This allows the flavors to settle and the cake to firm up slightly.
  • Serve the chocolate lava cake warm for the ultimate indulgence. If desired, top it off with a generous dollop of whipped cream or Cool Whip. The combination of warm cake, melting center, and creamy topping is simply divine!

Notes

  • For an extra chocolatey delight, you can add some chocolate chips or chopped chocolate to the batter before baking.
  • Experiment with different pudding flavors like caramel, vanilla, or even mint for a unique twist.
  • Serve the cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a contrasting cold and warm sensation.
  • Leftover cake can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. Just reheat it in the microwave for a few seconds before enjoying again.
