Method
- In a small pot, add in chopped apples, vanilla extract, brown sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, ground ginger, and ¼ cup water. Give that a stir, bring the pot to a boil, and right when it comes to a boil lower it to medium-low heat. Make sure you watch the apples and stir every 3-5 minutes for a total time of 20-25 minutes until they get soft and gooey. When the apples have 5 minutes left, stir in a tbsp of water (you can add more if you want it more saucy) and let that simmer for the remaining 5 minutes.
- In a large bowl, add in softened cream cheese and sour cream. Beat that with an electric hand mixer for a few minutes until combined. Then scrape the sides and add in the lemon juice, vanilla extract, a pinch of salt, and powdered sugar. Beat that again for a few minutes until smooth and creamy.
- Add the cream cheese mixture evenly into a pie plate and smooth it out using a rubber spatula. Top the cream cheese mixture with the apple compote. Then drizzle the honey or caramel over the top of the apples. Serve the dip with graham crackers and some apple slices. Enjoy!
