In a large measuring cup or bowl, add in chocolate cake mix, eggs, water, and oil. Whisk that together until fully combined.
Grease a 9x13 baking dish and evenly pour in HALF of the cake batter (save the remaining cake batter for later). Bake that in the oven at 350°F for 15 minutes.
While that is baking, to a pot add butter and caramels. Melt the butter and caramels over a low-heat until they are fully melted together.
Once the half of the cake is done pour the caramel butter sauce evenly over the top of the cake. Next, evenly sprinkle over the chocolate chips and 1 cup of chopped pecans. Then, pour the remaining half of the cake batter evenly over the top and gently smooth it out. Lastly, sprinkle the remaining 1 cup of chopped pecans over the top.
Bake that at 350°F for 20 minutes. Once it is done let it cool for about 20-25 minutes and enjoy!
