Chocolate Turtle Cake
Ingredients
- 13.25 oz box chocolate fudge cake mix
- 3 eggs
- 1 cup water
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- 2 cups chopped pecans divided
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 & ½ sticks salted butter
- 11 oz candy caramels
Instructions
- In a large measuring cup or bowl, add in chocolate cake mix, eggs, water, and oil. Whisk that together until fully combined.
- Grease a 9×13 baking dish and evenly pour in HALF of the cake batter (save the remaining cake batter for later). Bake that in the oven at 350°F for 15 minutes.
- While that is baking, to a pot add butter and caramels. Melt the butter and caramels over a low-heat until they are fully melted together.
- Once the half of the cake is done pour the caramel butter sauce evenly over the top of the cake. Next, evenly sprinkle over the chocolate chips and 1 cup of chopped pecans. Then, pour the remaining half of the cake batter evenly over the top and gently smooth it out. Lastly, sprinkle the remaining 1 cup of chopped pecans over the top.
- Bake that at 350°F for 20 minutes. Once it is done let it cool for about 20-25 minutes and enjoy!
Can you use olive oil in place of vegetable oil?
Unfortunately it will change the taste and won’t work.
I made it its good! But next time I make it I’m going to poke holes in the bottom layer for the caramel to go into the cake instead of just around it.
