Method
- Prepare the Work Surface - Lay a sheet of tin foil on your cutting board.
- Slice the Bread -Cut a loaf of bread lengthwise, keeping one side connected like a hinge. And gently spread it open.
- Butter the Bread- Generously spread butter on both inner sides of the loaf.
- Season- Sprinkle salt and pepper evenly over the buttered sides.
- Add Hard Cheese- Sprinkle Parmesan or Pecorino Romano over both sides.
- Spice It Up- Add crushed red pepper to taste for spice.
- Add Mozzarella- Tear fresh mozzarella into chunks and distribute evenly on both sides of the bread.
- Add Herbs and More Cheese- Sprinkle chopped fresh parsley over the mozzarella.then top with a little more Parmesan or Pecorino.
Wrap and Bake (Part
- Close the loaf.
- Wrap the entire loaf tightly in the tin foil.
- Bake in a 400°F (200°C) oven for 15 minutes.
Open and Bake (Part 2)
- Remove from the oven and carefully open the foil.
- Spread the loaf open flat again.
- If cheese stuck to one side, transfer it evenly to both sides.
- Return to oven uncovered at 400°F for 10 minutes, until crisp.
Broil for Finish
- Turn on the broiler to create dark, bubbly spots on the cheese.
- Pro tip: Fold foil over the edges of the bread (not the cheese) to prevent burning.
