Crispy Low-Carb Tacos
Ingredients
- 1 large chicken breast chopped small
- 1 small onion chopped
- 5 cloves of garlic chopped
- Juice of 1 lime
- 1 tbsp taco seasoning
- Guerrero Carb Watch flour tortillas https://www.inflcr.co/SHILy
- 1 to 2 cups vegetable or avocado oil for frying
- Lettuce tomato, cheese, and avocado (for taco fillings)
- Crema for topping
Instructions
- Heat a skillet over medium heat and add a drizzle of oil.
- Add the chopped chicken, onions, and garlic to the skillet.
- Saute until the chicken is browned and golden, and the onions are translucent.
- Sprinkle the taco seasoning evenly over the chicken mixture.
- Squeeze the juice of one lime over the seasoned chicken.
- Stir well to ensure the seasoning is evenly distributed.
- Allow the chicken to marinate in the seasoning for 5-6 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
- Continue cooking until the chicken is cooked through and tender.
- Heat another pan with high sides and add vegetable or avocado oil.
- Using tongs, carefully fold the tacos into a taco shape, securing the filling inside.
- Gently place the folded tacos into the hot oil.The ideal temperature for deep frying is typically between 350°F (175°C) and 375°F (190°C). This temperature range allows the food to cook evenly and develop a crispy exterior while ensuring that the inside is cooked through. It’s important to maintain a consistent temperature throughout the frying process to achieve the best results. Using a deep-fry thermometer can help you accurately monitor the oil temperature and adjust the heat as needed.
- Fry for about 5 minutes on each side, or until the tacos become golden and crispy.
- Once the tacos are golden and crispy, remove them from the oil using tongs.
- Drain any excess oil by placing the tacos on paper towels.
- Repeat the frying process for the remaining tacos.
- Now it’s time to build your tacos! Fill each crispy taco shell with the chicken mixture, cheese, lettuce, tomato, avocado, and any other desired fillings.
- Top with a dollop of crema for a creamy finishing touch.
Notes
-
For added flavor, consider marinating the chicken in the taco seasoning and lime juice for a longer period before cooking.
-
Customize your tacos by adding your favorite toppings such as salsa, guacamole, or chopped cilantro.
-
If you prefer a healthier option, you can bake the tacos in the oven instead of frying them. Simply brush the assembled tacos with oil and bake at 375°F (190°C) for about 10-12 minutes or until crispy.
