Okay, you guys, this might be one of my favorite Halloween recipes I’ve ever made! And the best part? It is SO ridiculously EASY!

This Halloween, my assistant Maddie and I decided to have a little fun in the kitchen. I dressed up as Pearl from the horror movie Pearl, and Maddie dressed up as Lizzie Borden. We were quite the pair, let me tell you! But of course, you know I couldn’t get dressed up for Halloween without making something delicious!

So I decided to take one of my most viral appetizers, my Honey Fig Dip, and give it a spooky little Halloween makeover! If you’ve never tried my original Honey Fig Dip, you are seriously missing out. It’s made with just FOUR ingredients: Boursin cheese, fig spread, hot honey, and pistachios. That’s it! It’s creamy, sweet, a little spicy, crunchy, and absolutely unbelievable.

I originally made this dip for the holidays, but why should Christmas have all the fun?! This time, I turned it into the cutest little witch’s hat using whole and chopped pistachios, a few dried apricots, and one slice of provolone cheese. And before you start thinking this looks complicated, let me tell you something.

Our Halloween Costumes — Pearl and Lizzie Borden!

Before we get to this delicious dip, can we talk about our costumes for a second?!

I went all out as Pearl, complete with the red dress, blue hair ribbon, fake blood, and of course, the axe! Maddie dressed up as Lizzie Borden, and I have to say, I think we nailed it! We had so much fun making this Halloween recipe together, and if you’re looking for costume ideas, I’m linking both of our outfits so you can recreate our looks!

A bag of Wonderful roasted and salted pistachios, a bottle of Nates Hot Honey, a jar of fig spread, and two wheels of Boursin cheese on a plate.

The four ingredients you will need to make this dip!

A person in a red shirt holds two unopened Boursin cheese rounds over a white plate.

Unwrap both packages of Boursin Garlic & Fine Herbs cheese and place them on the plate. Using a spatula or the back of a spoon, spread the cheese evenly across the plate, getting close to the edges.

Open your jar of Dalmatia fig spread and spoon the entire jar over the Boursin cheese.

A hand uses a spoon to spread fig jam over a layer of cream cheese on a platter.

You can leave a little white border of Boursin around the outside. I actually think it looks really pretty that way!

A hand squeezing a bottle of Nature Nates Hot Honey over a circular dish coated in a thick, reddish-brown sauce.

Now drizzle the hot honey evenly over the fig spread. I used Nature Nate’s hot honey for this version, but you can use whichever hot honey you like! The hot honey adds just the right amount of sweetness with a little kick, and it is SO good with the fig spread and Boursin.

A hand uses a spoon to spread fig jam over a layer of soft white cheese in a shallow dish.
A hand holds a bag of Wonderful Roasted & Salted Pistachios over a round dish covered in cream cheese and a spread of fig jam.

Grab your whole, shelled pistachios. Do NOT chop these yet because we’re going to use the whole pistachios to outline the witch’s hat.

I recommend starting with the bottom brim of the hat first. Arrange the pistachios in a wide, slightly curved line across the lower middle portion of your dip. Bring the ends upward a little bit, almost like you’re drawing a really wide smile.

A hand holds a 5-ounce bag of Nuts About Florida dried apricots.

Now grab a couple of dried apricots. I used Barnard’s dried apricots, but any soft dried apricots will work perfectly. These are going to become the orange hatband across the middle of your witch’s hat.

A person with red nail polish uses a small cracker to garnish a plate of spread topped with fig jam and a triangle of pistachios.

Using a sharp knife, cut the dried apricots into small squares. Try to make them approximately the same size so they’ll line up nicely across the hat.

A hand holding a square slice of cheese with a square hole cut out of its center, over a checkered wooden cutting board with pistachios and a spread-topped appetizer.

Take one slice of white provolone cheese. Cut a small square from the slice. Then carefully cut a smaller square out of the center.

That’s it! You just made a little buckle for your witch’s hat!

The whole pistachios gave us the outline, and now the chopped pistachios are going to fill in the inside of the hat.

Melissa’s Tips!

  • Use a dinner plate, not a pie dish! A large, flat dinner plate gives you enough space to make the witch’s hat without everything getting crowded.
  • Buy shelled pistachios! Trust me, you don’t want to sit there removing shells when you could already be decorating your dip!
  • Use whole pistachios for the outline. This is the easiest way to get the shape of the hat before you start filling it in.
  • Start with the bottom brim. Once you’ve created the curved bottom of the hat, it’s much easier to build the pointed top.
  • Save the chopped pistachios for last! Add your apricot hatband and provolone buckle before filling in the hat with chopped pistachios.
  • Use regular-thickness provolone cheese. Thin-sliced provolone can tear when you cut out the buckle.
  • Leave the center of the buckle uncovered! You want that beautiful fig spread peeking through.
  • Don’t worry about perfection! I am not crafty, and I made this! If your witch’s hat is a little crooked, that’s perfectly fine!
  • Print the finished photograph! Keep it next to you while decorating so you can follow the shape.
  • Serve with sturdy crackers. You want something that can scoop up the creamy cheese, fig spread, honey, and pistachios in one delicious bite!

🤔 Common Questions

Can I make Halloween Witch’s Hat Dip ahead of time?

Absolutely! You can spread the Boursin cheese onto your serving plate, add the fig spread, and drizzle on the hot honey ahead of time. Cover and refrigerate until you’re ready to decorate. I recommend adding the pistachios, apricots, and provolone closer to serving time so everything looks fresh and the pistachios stay crunchy.

Can I use a different cheese instead of Boursin?

You can use softened cream cheese in a pinch, but I really recommend Boursin Garlic & Fine Herbs. The garlic and herbs add a savory flavor that balances the sweet fig spread and hot honey beautifully. It’s what makes this dip so delicious!

What can I use instead of pistachios?

If you don’t like pistachios, you could try another chopped nut, such as pecans. Just remember that the pistachios give the witch’s hat its pretty green color, so your finished design will look a little different. If you’re avoiding nuts because of an allergy, choose an appropriate nut-free topping and check all ingredient labels.

👝 How to Store Leftovers

If you have any leftovers, cover the dip tightly or transfer it to an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 3–4 days. The pistachios may soften a little as they sit in the fig spread and honey, but the dip will still taste delicious! Because this recipe contains cheese, don’t leave it sitting at room temperature for more than two hours.
