I’m not quite sure if this is the authentic way to make Spanish rice, but all I know is that it is an incredibly delicious way to make Spanish rice! We’re going to start out by sauteing some vegetables to bring a lot of fresh flavors to the rice and then we’re going to start building the most delicious rice side dish for any night of the week no matter what protein you’re serving. In this blog follow my directions exactly and you’re going to have restaurant quality spanish rice to serve your family. One of my favorite tricks to ensure the perfect rice is using aluminum foil! Before you pop the top onto your pot, cover it with aluminum foil to ensure all the flavors and steam stay inside of the pot. You can use this trick any time you make rice, but you are definitely going to use it today. Let’s make it!

  • Add vegetable oil to a skillet along with the onion hunk, green onions, carrots, and smashed garlic. Sauté at medium heat for 5 minutes until fragrant and slightly golden.
  • Add in the rice and sauté the rice with veggies for about 5 minutes or until golden brown. Keep moving the rice in the pan with a wooden spoon so it doesn’t burn.
  • Then, add the tomato sauce, Sazon seasoning packet, black pepper, and chicken stock to the skillet. Bring that to a boil. Cover the skillet with aluminum foil and then cover with the lid over the foil. Lower the heat to low and simmer covered for about 35 – 40 minutes.
  • Remove from the heat. Fluff up the rice. Then cover again and leave covered off the heat for 15 minutes. Finally, uncover and fluff up again. Let it sit uncovered for another 15 minutes. Then, serve the best rice ever! Make it!
