Tips Before Cooking

Spray the foil first

Make sure to spray the side of the foil facing the hot dogs with nonstick spray before covering the baking dish. This helps prevent the cheese from sticking while baking.

Don’t overfill the buns

You want the toppings packed on, but not overflowing too much so everything stays together while baking.

Use freshly shredded cheese

Freshly shredded cheese melts smoother and gives the best cheesy texture.

Add toppings after baking if preferred

If you like extra crunch from the onions or parsley, you can sprinkle a little more on after baking too.

🤔 Common Questions

Can I use different cheese?

Absolutely. Cheddar works great, but Monterey Jack, Colby Jack, mozzarella, or a spicy pepper jack would all be delicious.

Can I leave off the sauerkraut?

Yes. If you’re not a sauerkraut fan, you can skip it or replace it with jalapeños, relish, or extra onions.

What chili works best?

Any canned chili without beans works great for this recipe.
