Ingredients
  

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix any brand
  • 12 oz cherry cola
  • 16 oz jar maraschino cherries divided
  • 1 container Cool Whip

Method
 

Step 1 — Prep
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Grease a 9x13 baking dish.
Step 2 — Prepare the Cake Batter
  1. Disregard the instructions on the cake mix box.
  2. Pour the dry chocolate cake mix into a mixing bowl.
  3. Add 12 oz cherry cola.
  4. Chop half of the maraschino cherries into quarters. Leave the remaining half whole.
  5. Add HALF of the cherries (both chopped and whole portions divided as desired) into the batter.
  6. Mix until fully combined and smooth.
Step 3 — Bake
  1. Pour batter into prepared 9x13 baking dish.
  2. Bake for 28–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  3. Let cake cool completely.
Step 4 — Make the Cherry Cool Whip Frosting
  1. Stir a few spoonfuls of maraschino cherry juice into the Cool Whip until lightly pink and cherry flavored.
  2. Spread evenly over cooled cake.
Step 5 — Chill
  1. Refrigerate the frosted cake for at least 1 hour before serving.
  2. Top with remaining cherries if desired.
  3. Slice and enjoy!
