Ingredients
  

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix any brand
  • 12 oz cherry cola
  • 16 oz jar maraschino cherries divided
  • 1 container Cool Whip

Instructions
 

Step 1 — Prep

  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • Grease a 9x13 baking dish.

Step 2 — Prepare the Cake Batter

  • Disregard the instructions on the cake mix box.
  • Pour the dry chocolate cake mix into a mixing bowl.
  • Add 12 oz cherry cola.
  • Chop half of the maraschino cherries into quarters. Leave the remaining half whole.
  • Add HALF of the cherries (both chopped and whole portions divided as desired) into the batter.
  • Mix until fully combined and smooth.

Step 3 — Bake

  • Pour batter into prepared 9x13 baking dish.
  • Bake for 28–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Let cake cool completely.

Step 4 — Make the Cherry Cool Whip Frosting

  • Stir a few spoonfuls of maraschino cherry juice into the Cool Whip until lightly pink and cherry flavored.
  • Spread evenly over cooled cake.

Step 5 — Chill

  • Refrigerate the frosted cake for at least 1 hour before serving.
  • Top with remaining cherries if desired.
  • Slice and enjoy!
